ON AG from Zurich knows all about innovation. Elite athletes all over the world feel like they’re running on clouds thanks to ON. Thanks to a patented shock-absorbent sole, the Swiss sports brand wins gold every time. When the shoe and sportswear developers aren’t targeting new personal bests, the name of the game at ON is sustainability.

Recyclable materials, resource-efficient manufacturing, circular economy rather than linear waste – ON’s commitment is clear to see. The only catch? The brand's shipping and retail packaging was ordered and produced in Vietnam, nearly 9,500 kilometres away – a delivery distance that raised some eyebrows.

The clear next step was to turn to Model. After all, the distance between our experts in environmentally friendly packaging and ON is barely 70 kilometres. Still, being a stone’s throw away does not a green partnership make. Our challenge: sustainable packaging for ON that would optimise the shipping process and improve the user experience.

We produce and supply to ON outer packaging for retail and shipping in four sizes and shoe boxes in 14 sizes (for adults and children).

Eco materials

Our testliner cover layer is made from 100% recycled fibres without any dyes. That is something ON’s customers can see and feel immediately. The previous packaging was coated with a black colour, whereas now the boxes appear in natural brown.

Streamlined shipping

ON boxes save on material and volume thanks to tuck-in flaps. This reduces storage costs and optimises shipping logistics. The crash lock base is assembled in seconds, which speeds up picking and packing.

Better customer experience

Printing clear information on returns and exchanges on the inside of the box turns the packaging into part of the unboxing experience – and saves on additional inserts.

Closed loop paper

With our own circular economy approach, we’re on exactly the same page as ON. We use up to 100% recycled paper and always recycle used packaging.

Every unnecessary addition to the delivery distance makes sustainable packaging needlessly more expensive – not to mention a contradiction. That’s why we manufacture directly on site and deliver to ON by the shortest route. With no middlemen or pit stops.
