Punched, grooved, perforated, with flaps and folds - have you ever noticed how cleverly a box is constructed? This does not happen by chance. Manufacturers of corrugated and solid board packaging adhere to the FEFCO code during production.

"I need a folding box with lid according to FEFCO code 0201." Everything is immediately clear. The four-digit number makes it easier for everyone involved to talk about packaging. This is because the FEFCO code, more precisely the FEFCO ESBO code, assigns a unique number to all standard packaging made of corrugated cardboard or solid board, regardless of size. The international code also describes how a box is assembled and how it is closed.

"FEFCO stands for Fédération Européenne des Fabricants de Carton Ondule, the European Federation of Corrugated Cardboard Manufacturers. It was founded in 1952 and is based in Brussels. Today, the official name is the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers. "ESBO" completes the abbreviation. It stands for European Solid Board Organisation, the European organisation for solid board.

What do the FEFCO codes mean?

01 Rolls and sheets

This refers to corrugated cardboard rolls and sheet blanks.

02 Folding boxes

Flat delivered blank, ready for use, is closed with the help of flaps.

03 Lidded boxes

Also known as telescope boxes. Several parts, whereby the lid is usually placed over the bottom part.

04 Folded sleeves and trays

Blank to which side panels or lids are already attached to the base. Locking devices, handles and displays can be integrated.

05 Sliding boxes

Ring inserts and cuffs are slid into each other here. Also known as belt boxes.

06 Moulded boxes

07 Finished glued boxes

One-piece, foldable boxes, delivered folded and easy to erect.

09 Interior fittings
